Frequently Asked Questions

How does u-pick work?

Come out during our open hours, no appointment needed. We will provide you with a bucket and shears to pick. If you bring a bucket to transport your flowers home, just leave it with us at the check-in table and we will put water in it and have it ready when you are done picking.

Can we just come walk through the gardens for free?

Due to the amount of time, effort and resources that have gone into creating the gardens, it is expected that those visiting will be participating in the u-pick. We do make exceptions if you are planning an event and wish to check out our selection to decide if our flowers are right for you. If this is the case, please email in advance to let me know when you will be visiting. countryjoyflowers@gmail.com

Do I need to bring anything?

Just you! We have buckets to pick into and plenty of shears. If you want to avoid the $2 bucket fee, you may bring a bucket to transport your flowers home. However, everyone picks into the buckets we provide so everyone uses the same sized container.  You may also want to bring a water bottle and sunscreen.

What are the prices for u-pick?

You can find all pricing details here.

What forms of payment are accepted?

Cash or credit cards are accepted.  Our square reader is capable of tap.

Are children allowed?

Absolutely! Picking flowers is a wonderful way to spend time as a family. However, they are expected to remain with you and should not be running around the gardens/farm or pulling off flowers.

May we walk down to the barn to see the goats?

No. Our u-pick gardens are open to the public and you are welcome to explore and enjoy this area of the farm. The rest of the farm is closed to the public. However, the gardens and parking area both beside pastures and you may often see goats and sheep while you pick.

What if we aren’t done picking at closing time?

Please plan to arrive in plenty of time to ensure you have finished picking by 11am in the morning or 7pm in the evening on open days. By 11am the summer heat is cranking and it’s time to give the field a rest. Our gardens are rented to photographers on u-pick evenings at 7pm so the gardens need to be cleared. We also live here and plan our days around our open/closed times. For these reasons, our closing times are firm.

May we take photos while picking?

You may certainly snap fun photos while picking flowers! We’d be happy to be tagged if you share them on social media! Any type of formal photos, however, do require a professional photographer and an appointment.

I would like to have photos done in the gardens…do you provide the photographer?

No, you are responsible to provide your own photographer. Your photographer needs to reserve time via our schedule and must have a photography business (website, insurance, etc.) All the information is located on the photography page of our website.

Do we need an appointment to pick if there will be several of us?

Nope! Our gardens are large and able to accommodate groups. However, if you have a large group of 10 or more each picking their own bucket, consider shooting us a heads-up message so we have plenty of buckets ready and waiting when you arrive. However, this isn’t necessary and you can feel comfortable just showing up.

When is a good time to pick?

Morning picking is always best in the summer when the flowers have cooled overnight. If the day is going to be really hot, arriving as close to 8am as possible is always recommended. Wednesday mornings are typically our slowest days but have some of the best options since nobody has picked Sunday – Tuesday.  Saturday mornings are always the fullest.

My event is Saturday, when should I pick and how should I handle them?

I typically prefer to pick two days ahead of events so there is ample time to work with the flowers. You will want to take your flowers home, change the water, and let them hydrate in the buckets for a couple hours in a cool room before arranging. Make sure any leaves below the water line are removed. The flowers will look great for several days, so picking two days in advance will not be a problem. Avoid putting them anywhere colder than an AC room and try to avoid putting them under a ceiling fan.

I’m picking for an event, is it okay if I bring helpers?

Absolutely! It may even be beneficial to come visit a week or so in advance and see what the gardens have to offer and what you want them to pick. Then assign your helpers to varieties or colors on picking day. You can store your buckets together in our building as they are filled, so they aren’t sitting in the sun.

Is it possible to schedule a private u-pick party?

Yes! We are able to accommodate private party groups on Monday evenings, but these must be scheduled in advance. We also require a 10-bucket minimum to host private groups. This option is excellent for professional team building events and does qualify for our group discount rate. To inquire, please email countryjoyflowers@gmail.com.
